Call for Applications – “Scena Erasmus” Theatre Workshop (Fifth Edition, First Term)

Applications are now open to participate in the first term of the fifth edition of the theatre workshop “Scena Erasmus”, a project organized by the University Theatre Centre (CUT) and the Teatro Lunaria Association in collaboration with:

  • ERASMUS+
  • EUNICE – European University for Customized Education
  • Europe on Scene Network, led by the University of Valencia

The project was created to establish an international student theatre company that will become part of the network, provide opportunities for cultural exchange among young people of different nationalities, and help foreign students learn the Italian language.

Requirements
Participation is completely free of charge, and no prior theatre experience is required.

The call is open to incoming Erasmus students in Catania during the first semester of the 2025/26 academic year, as well as to all students enrolled at the University of Catania. The company will consist of 70% foreign students (enrolled or on mobility in Catania) and 30% Italian students enrolled at UNICT, for a maximum of 20 participants.

In addition, students, researchers, and staff from universities belonging to the EUNICE Alliance who are in Catania on mobility during the relevant semester may also join upon request.

For participation in Scena Erasmus, 4 mobility grants of €1,000 each will be made available through a public notice. These are intended to support participation in the workshop and are reserved for students enrolled in bachelor’s, master’s, PhD, or specialization programs at the 9 partner universities of the EUNICE Alliance, specifically:

  • Poznan University of Technology (PUT) – POLAND
  • Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF) – FRANCE
  • Université de Mons (UMONS) – BELGIUM
  • Vaasan Yliopisto (UVA) – FINLAND
  • Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) – GERMANY
  • Universidad de Cantabria (UC) – SPAIN
  • Karlstad University – SWEDEN
  • University of the Peloponnese – GREECE
  • Instituto Politécnico de Viseu – PORTUGAL

If the number of applications (non-EUNICE) exceeds the available places, priority will be given to ensuring the widest possible variety of countries of origin. Gender balance and broad representation of the different departments will also be guaranteed.

Workshop schedule
The workshop will normally take place on Wednesdays, from 29 October to 10 December 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the CUT headquarters in Piazza Università 13, Catania.

The first introductory meeting will be held on 16 October at 7:00 p.m. This meeting will be open to anyone interested in learning about the initiative before enrolling in the workshop. During the meeting, the activities will be presented and the final schedule of the workshop, rehearsals, and final performance will be agreed upon.

How to apply
Applications must be submitted online by 18 October 2025.
